Abbreviated Season of Promise for ALAH Track Team

After only 2 indoor meets, the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond tracksters had positioned themselves as a force to be reckoned with in Central Illinois. Though the Mt. Zion Invitational had no “official” scoring, tabulations done by the ALAH coach staff showed impressive results. Using the standard 9 place scoring rules, ALAH totaled 89 points to tie for 1st place with the host Mt. Zion Braves. An impressive array of traditional Class 1A and 2A powers from Central Illinois made up the 17 team invite.

Outstanding overall team depth at this meet showed exceptional promise for the team. Knight athletes scored in almost every event they were entered in. ALAH also won 2 of the 3 relay events contested.

The 3200 meter relay was led off by Knight Seniors Cade Hendrickson and Aiden Stewart. Austin Plank and Jace Green held off challenges from Mt. Zion and Springfield SHG to complete the win which ranks 17 statewide. The 800 meter relay of Max Allen, Quentin Morgan, Kaden Feagin and Finnian Davison out legged Decatur MacArthur to gather 1st place honors and post the 8th fastest 1A time in Illinois.

The Knight’s distance crew also shined in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Layton Hall turned in a top 5 statewide performance while finishing 3rd in the 1600. Logan Beckmier was right behind in 4th turning in one of the leading freshman times in the state. Jace Green provided depth finishing 9th just off his PR from last year. In the 3200, Beckmier battled lap after lap with Taylorville All State Junior Christopher Cherry to finish second with the 6th fastest 1A time statewide. Logan’s time also ranks 51st nation wide among freshmen. Lyle and Jacob Adcock were 3rd and 4th, both turning in 20 second PR’s that rank 15th and 17th statewide. Hall had turned in the state’s 4th fastest 3200 time at the Mt. Zion Mini Meet 2 weeks earlier.

Finnian Davison led the Knight’s sprint corps while showing a glimpse of having a breakout season. His 3rd place finish in the 60 was outdone by his 2nd place run in the 200. Kaden Feagin was just behind in the 200 with a 4th place finish.

Sophomore Max Allen powered his way to 5th place in the 400 with Junior Quentin Morgan grabbing 9th.

Feagin showed why he is the leading incoming freshman long jumper nationally (ranked by in winning his specialty field event. Feagin’s leap ranks among the Class 1A leaders indoors.

Junior Jack Martin rounded out Knight field event scoring with a season best effort to grab the final scoring position in the shot put.
