Cerro Gordo High School Moves to Remote Learning

On Sunday evening September 6, Superintendent Brett Robinson, announced via school reach, Skyward email, and through their social media and website that over the weekend, three additional students at Cerro Gordo High School tested positive for COVID-19.

The school is coordinating efforts with the DeWitt-Piatt Bi-County Health Department as well as following the guidance of the CDC and are placing all staff members and students who are identified as having prolonged close contact to the COVID-19 cases in quarantine for 14 days to prevent further spread within our school and community. The health and safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. Close contacts have or will also receive a separate notification from the DeWitt-Piatt Bi-County Health Department.

Beginning on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, all Cerro Gordo High School classes and students (grades 9-12) will move to remote learning. All Cerro Gordo Elementary and Junior High in-person learners in grades PK-8 will continue in-person learning. We plan to resume in-person attendance for Cerro Gordo High School classes and students (grades 9-12) on Monday, September 21, 2020.

We will continue our ongoing monitoring of students and staff for signs and symptoms of illness and evaluation of illness reports to promptly identify possible outbreaks. Our custodial staff will continue to deep clean and disinfect the areas impacted by potential exposure to the COVID-19 virus.

In order to accomplish that, we need everyone’s help when you are out in public: please wear masks indoors, social distance, and frequently wash or sanitize your hands. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing cooperation with our COVID prevention policies and procedures as we work to help protect your children, your families, and our staff and their families,” Robinson said.

On Thursday, September 3rd, the Superintendent of Cerro Gordo Schools, Brett Robinson released an initial letter stating that only one individual had tested positive for COVID in the Junior and Senior High building.
