This has been an exceptional year for things being done differently. 2020 will go down in history for being an “unusual year.” The Atwood Chamber of Commerce had to make a difficult decision regarding Halloween festivities. The annual Halloween parade has been held for many years and the chamber didn’t want to let a year go by without one, and in case of inclement weather there was no place to take it indoors. The chamber made a decision to sponsor a “Virtual” Halloween parade to be judged by the public.
The categories will be:
•3 years and younger
•4-8 years old
•9-14 years old
•15 years old to adult
•Group
•Pet
Contestants must submit their picture in costume via Private Message on the Atwood Chamber of Commerce page or e-mail atwoodilchamber@gmail.com or text picture to 217-493-4184. Pictures MUST be submitted by 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 25. The picture MUST include name, age and the category you wish to enter.
The “parade of pictures” will be posted on the Atwood Chamber of Commerce page by category on Monday, October 26. The public is encouraged to vote for their favorite entry by “liking” the picture on the ACC parade. VOTING WILL END AT 8 p.m. on Friday, October 30. The winner in each category will be the picture with the most likes.
Prizes in each category will be: 1st-$20; 2nd-$10 and 3rd-$5. Winners will be announced online on Halloween, October 31, by 5 p.m. By submitting your images, you give the chamber permission to use and share on social media. Get your costume ready and make sure you follow the rules above to enter.
The Atwood Fire Department is planning a drive thru Trick or Treat on Halloween at the fire house from 6-8 p.m. Be sure to stop by the fire house.
The parking lot at the United Church of Atwood will be open to the public if you would like to park your car and have an individual Trunk or Treat.
The Village of Atwood is sponsoring their regular Trick or Treat Night on Saturday, October 31, from 6-8 p.m. If you are an Atwood resident and would like to participate by handing out candy, please turn on your porch light to let the children know they are welcome to stop. It is up to each household to make this choice, but children/parents are asked to please respect each household’s decision.
There should be no doubt any children in Atwood or visiting Atwood will get enough candy to satisfy their sweet tooth. Motorists please watch out for children on the street. Their safety is in our hands.
