Bement Middle School wins cross country sectional

Bement middle school hosted the IESA Sectional on Tuesday, October 13.

Bement 7th grader Will Fuson won the boys 2-mile race with a time of 12:06.05. John Paul Brewer finished in 5th place coming in at 12:25.92 followed by Brayden Strack, Brody Somers, Cliff Strack and Tyce Alumbaugh finishing 7th, 8th, 11th, and 14th with times of 12:39.96, 12:40.49, 12:50.91, and 13:09.63 respectively. Placing 25th with a time of 14:24.43 was Joe Schum.

Bement won the sectional meet with 32 points followed by Effingham St. Anthony with 55 points for 2nd place, Okaw Valley came in 3rd scoring 74 points, Cowden-Herrick finished 4th with 96 points, Central A&M was 5th with 132 points, and Sigel St. Michael’s came in 6th with 138 points.

Bement’s Gabby Block finished in 7th place for the girls team at 14:39.68. Cassie Block came in 21st finishing with a time of 17:02.83 followed by teammate Addie Roberts in 22nd at 17:04.29.

Effingham St. Anthony won the girls meet with 21 points followed by Okaw Valley with 57 points for 2nd place and Sigel St. Anthony’s was 3rd with 58 points.

The Bulldogs had four boys and 1 girl medal at the event.

Coach Andrew Brown stated, “They work so well together in making each other better. They competed every day to push each other and drive down their pace and places, and the results speak for themselves!”
