Larry Dale Quick

Larry Dale Quick, 82, passed away January 24, 2021 at his home in Crystal Lake, IL with his wife of 58 years, Peggy Quick, by his side. He was born on June 26, 1938 in Atwood, Illinois, to Lilbern and Gladys Quick and raised on the family farm, the youngest of four children. After growing up on the family farm, Larry went on to graduate from Eastern Illinois University with his Bachelor and Master degree in teaching. He worked at Crystal Lake Central High School for 36 years as Art Teacher and Department Chairman, teaching photography, painting and pottery.

When he was not introducing young people to art, Larry treasured his time with Peggy and daughter, Lara Moody. He spent his summers sailing on Lake Michigan, traveling across North America, and taking numerous trips to Europe. He especially enjoyed his trips to Greece to visit Peggy’s family. Larry captured those experiences in his paintings and photographs. He was a talented painter, photographer, sailor and writer. He published a book “Fate Rode the Wind” during retirement, wrote many short stories and poems, and painted throughout his life. He truly had a passion and talent for the arts.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Eugene (Joan) Quick, his sister Marion Hale, and his brother-in-law Frank Georgalis.
In addition to Peggy and Lara, Larry is survived by Lara’s husband Scott Moody, his grandsons, Alexander and Andrew Moody, his brother Jack Quick, his brother-in-law Wayne Hale, his brother-in-law Tom (Vikki) Georgalis, and many nieces and nephews.

We climbed the backside of yesterday
And softly tumbled into the concave hollow
Of today, yesterday’s sister-day.

Tomorrow will follow
After we climb the far side of today.

Should I ask what would exist,
If we were to stumble
Or resist,
Hold onto today, or grumble
Going up that incline toward tomorrow?
Larry D. Quick
