CGB Broncos at Villa Grove on Friday as Spring Football Kicks-Off
This Friday marks the beginning of the IHSA football season across the state as the fall football schedule was moved to the spring due to COVID-19 restrictions.
“I am excited to get to play football,” Cerro Gordo-Bement Broncos Coach Nick Walker stated.
As far as moving the time of the season Coach Walker said, “Spring is a very different feel than when we play in the fall. I wish they would have given every sport shorter schedules and not tried to pack as much into a season as they have. Competing with other sports for athletes has been hard.”
The Broncos have fifteen returning classmen on the roster and include seniors Tyler Cullison, Weslei Harper, Blaine Burns, Jacob Rogers, and Sam Dalton. Junior players are Colin Warren, Spencer Sterling, Trent Cooper, Garrett Daniels, Aiden Shonkwiler, Xander Hutchcraft, Cody Layfield, Jimmy Sheets, Connor Brown, and James Senter.
Eight sophomores are out this season and they are Dawson Pollock, Ivan Corpus, John Freese, Kade Alumbaugh, Joseph Meinders, Thomas Pierceall, Carson Brown, and Nic Dooley.
Completing the CGB roster are freshmen Ian Bettinger, Chance Young, and Jacob Flach.
Walkers feels the players to watch this season for the Broncos will be Sam Dalton, Colin Warren, Garrett Daniels, Aiden Shonkwiler, and Xander Hutchcraft.
The coaching staff also includes Chad Corum, Dave Elder, and Todd Dalton.
