ALAH Girls Track First to Hit the Track and Field This 2021 Season

The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond girls’ track and field team traveled to Newton on Monday, April 19 for the Newton Girls Preseason Meet. There were seven teams entered in the meet, Bridgeport Red Hill, Monticello, Casey-Westfield, Olney, Vandalia, ALAH and the host school. Newton took the team title and the Knights finished in seventh.

Event winners for the red, black and gold were Alexa Miller in the 200 meters with a time of 27.65 seconds and Brooke Clark in the discus with a throw of 96’ 4”.

Alexa also took third place in two other events, the 100 in a time of 13.05 and the long jump with a leap of 14’ 8”.

Earning fifth place finishes in the meet were Sarah Rafferty, 800 meters, 2:52.7; Sarah Rogers, shot put, 28’ 1”; and the 4 by 400 meter relay team.

Emma Edwards took sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:11.82. Miah Malin finished out the scoring for the Knights with a time of 14.81 in the 100 which was good for a seventh place finish.

Other ALAH results included: Sarah Rogers discus throw of 51’ 8”; Evanger Wiley’s 800 meter time of 3:50.26; Miah Malin’s long jump of 10’ 4”; and Emma Jones running 17.18 in the 100 and 37.08 in the 200.

The Knights were to run along with the boys at Shelbyville on Saturday, April 24 for the first coed meet of the season. Next up on the schedule was a meet at Warrensburg Latham on Wednesday, April 28. Their first home meet is set for May 4 against LSA, Okaw Valley and Cumberland.
