Mt. Zion Jr. High Braves Track Teams Take Overall Team Title at 11th Annual Invitational

The Mt. Zion Jr. High track teams won the overall team title of their own Invitational on Saturday, May 1. The overall champion is determined by adding the points scored in each division. The seventh grade boys and girls took first in their divisions with 165 and 141 points respectively. The eighth grade boys and girls both earned runners up with 81 and 100.
In the seventh grade girls portion of the meet, Ava Anderson won two events, the shot put and discus as did Ella Fink taking first in the long jump and 200 meters. Other seventh graders earning first place medals were Addison Flannery in the pole vaults, and the 400 meter relay team of Taylor Larson, Lane Renfro, Kyleigh Garber and Ava Anderson.
For the eighth grade girls, first place medals were won by Alexa Weter in the pole vault, Alyssa Thompson in the 400 meters and Aly Douglass in the 800. Both the 400 meter relay team of Naomi Schmahl, Hallie Traxler, Kaylee Garner and Delaney Hermann and the 1600 meter relay team of Tayetum Flanigan, Brooklyn Kondritz, Alyssa Thompson and Aly Douglass also earned medals.
On the boys side Jacob Harvey was a double winner in the seventh grade taking first in the long jump and 100 meters. Other seventh grade medalists were Keller Stocks, 400 meters; Gabe Shumaker, 110 meter hurdles; Broden Reynolds, shot put; and Ryne Sheppard, high jump.
Two of the seventh grade boys relays were also victorious, Ryne Sheppard, Keller Stocks, Ryne Reatherford and Jacob Harvey were the runners on both the 800 and 1600 meter relays.
In the eighth grade boys division, Brayden Trimble won both the high jump and the 400 meters and Lyncoln Koester took first in the 1600 meters.
