Gary A. Moore

Gary A. Moore, 61, of Mattoon, IL, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. Gary was born in Pana, IL on August 22, 1959. He was preceded in death by parents Charles E. and Jean Reedy Moore, and brothers Don, Chuck, and Michael Moore. Gary is survived by his children Teddy Moore (Kayla) of Neoga and Abigail (Dave Beliz) Moore of Mattoon; grandchildren Emery, Harrison, Eden, Avery & Hudson; and sisters Carol Moore of Pana and Judy Moore (Ron) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Gary attended schools in Pana and Boody, IL and graduated from East Park Baptist Academy in 1977. After graduation, he served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. John F. Kennedy. During his tour of duty, he traveled extensively to Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. After his service to his country, Gary became somewhat of an entrepreneur, starting and running such ventures as a meat distribution company and an aerial photography business. His interests included golfing, browsing antique stores and garage sales, metal detecting, playing pinochle, mushroom hunting, and eating the hottest peppers he could find. Gary’s favorite thing, though, was spending time with his family and friends. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren, other family members, and friends. Gary would never let you leave without giving you a big hug and a heartfelt “I love you.”

As per his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. On Saturday, June 26, 2021, there will be a gathering of family & friends from 9:15-9:30 a.m. at the Chautauqua Building at Kitchell Park in Pana. Everyone is then invited to attend a celebration of life service that is being hosted by the family at Price Cemetery, Oconee at 10:00 a.m. with military rites by the Pana Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorials in Gary’s honor may be made to the Mattoon VFW Post #4325, 1220 S 19th St, Mattoon, IL 61938 and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
