The Atwood Village Board met on Wednesday, August 18 to discuss the golf cart ordinance for the village. Some complaints had been received regarding underage children driving the golf carts on village streets. The present ordinance requires anyone driving a golf cart on the street to be 21 years of age. The Illinois Municipal League recommends 21, but it is ultimately the decision of the board.
Also, golf carts have to meet all requirements of the village before they can be driven on the streets. A copy of the Ordinance No. 21-O-03 for golf carts/UTVs is available at the Atwood Village Hall.
Cost to register a golf cart/UTV is $75.00 first year, $50 yearly renewal.
After hearing remarks from the trustees, Scott Harris made the motion to amend the golf cart ordinance to read drivers must be 16 years of age and have a valid driver’s license from any state. The board also voted to make renewal dates the regular calendar year, January 1-December 31. Allen Kilber seconded the motion, motion passed.
This decision by the board will take effect immediately.
