MTZ golf striving early

The Mt. Zion boys golf team has put together two within the top-three finishes so far this season. The team has combined for a score of under 400 four times so far this year.

At the Taylorville Invitational, the Braves had four golfers score under 90. Jack Driscoll (78), Brent Hansen (80), Riley Taylor (88) and Sammy Driscoll (89) were those four golfers. The Braves finished with a combined score of 335 and finished the invitational in first place.

At the Urbana Invitational five of the six golfers score under 90. Weston Grohne (80), Hansen (84), Jack Driscoll (85), Taylor (86) and Sammy Driscoll (87). The sixth golfer Ashton Anderson golfed a 92. The team finished with a team score of 336 and finished in fifth place.

At the Raider/Redbird Invitational the Braves combined for a team score of 334 and had four golfers score under 90. Grohne golfed a 77 followed by Hansen (84), Taylor (85) and Jacl Driscoll (88).

In the Lincoln Scramble the team combined for a score of 57 and finished in second place.

In their most recent invite at the Champaign Central Invite, five Braves golfers scored under 90. Hansen led the way golfing a 79, followed by Jack Driscoll (80), Grohne (82), Sammy Driscoll (860 and Taylor (88). The team combined for a total score of 327.

“We are continuing to improve with each tournament,” Head coach Colby Burdick said. “Our goal is to be playing our best at the end of September and into October, and we are well on our way toward achieving that.”

The Mt. Zion boys golf team will travel to Tuscola next. The event is set for tomorrow at 4:15 P.M.
