The Piatt County Firefighters Association organized an impressive 9/11 parade and ceremony for Saturday, Sept. 11. Around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, several Piatt County fire departments, EMS vehicles and Kirby Hospital ambulance left Bement starting their 90+ mile journey to each town in Piatt County, arriving in Monticello close to noon.
The ceremony on the Monticello High School football field was well done with impressive speeches by Dan Caulkins, Illinois House of Representatives, District 101 and Congressman Rodney Davis plus some local firefighters.
The speeches brought back so many sad memories of that fateful day of 9/11 and the attack on the United States. This was a time that brought our country together, people cared about each other and looked after each other.
Though we should “Never Forget” about 9/11, it never hurts to be reminded.
Thanks to the organizers for a job well done. They included: John Rupkey, Monticello Fire Department; Austin Wiggins & Matt Wilhelm, Cisco Fire Department; Dan Sheehan, Monticello Fire Department, and Ellen Lynch, Atwood Fire Department.
