The Mt. Zion girls basketball team lost in Apollo conference action against Lincoln on the road 44-27. Denver Anderson led the Braves in scoring with 14 points.

“I was disappointed in our overall play especially with our number of turnovers and poor defensive rebounding,” Head coach Steve Marvel said. “We are hurting and ill, but no excuse for our play. We regressed in that game.”

The Braves fell to 9-19 overall and 2-8 in Apollo conference play. The Braves will finish their regular season this week with three games. The games will be against Sullivan, Mattoon and Effingham.

“We have a tough stretch upcoming with three games in four days (Monday, Wednesday make up with Mattoon and Thursday), but a period to get better before regionals,” Coach Marvel said. We will be looking at some rotation changes to try this week to prepare for regionals. We have to get our press-break down better and minimize our mental mistakes. We will use the next three games to prepare for Rochester who I believe should be our first regional opponent.”
