Mt. Zion softball senior Sierra Hiser has signed her letter of intent to play at Blackburn College next spring.
Hiser plays mainly first base for the Braves and compiled 21 hits and 13 RBI’s last year. Head coach Greg Blakey said that Hiser’s work ethic and her leadership by example is what made her a good athlete and put her in this position.
“She doesn’t say much, but she works her butt off and she earned a spot last year through her work ethic to be honest,” Coach Blakey said. “She’s become a very good player because of her work ethic.”
Hiser chose Blackburn College due to the coaching staff. She has bonded with her new teammates already and has heard nothing, but good things about the college.
Hiser will take with her from Mt. Zion to Blackburn College is the team spirit and team bonding.
“Here in Mt. Zion, we do a lot of team spirit and team bonding,” Hiser said. And I love that about this place. And I want to continue that in the college experience.”
Hiser wants to become a student and an athlete in her freshman year. She wants to better herself at her sport and in the classroom. Hiser plans to pursue a degree in education.
Coach Blakey’s last words of advice to Hiser are to take and continue her work ethic and to never lose that.
Hiser will cherish and remember the most about her time at Mt. Zion is the team bonding.
“I’ve made a ton of really good friendships here,” And I will always remember my teammates and us winning and us losing together as a team. It’s really just the main thing for me is we’ve become a family.”
