ALAH JH Boys Track Teams Host Triangular with Cumberland and Villa Grove

Eighth graders Cash Hale, left and Ryker Beckmier race to the finish in the 400 meter dash in the meet on April 11. They battled to the very end with Cash just out leaning Ryker at the finish line. Cash’s time was 1:05.5 and Ryker’s was 1:06.57. One, two finishes like in this event helped the eighth grade top the team standings over Cumberland and Villa Grove.

The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Jr. High boys track teams played hosts to Cumberland and Villa Grove on Monday, April 11 at Wilson Field.

The eighth grade boys won the team competition with 65 points followed by Cumberland, 48 and Villa Grove 21.

Cruz Hale was a double winner for the eighth grade taking firsts in the 800 and 1600 meters. Other winners in that division were Trey Strode, high jump; Easton Frederick, long jump; Cash Hale, 400m; and the 4 X 1 relay team of Daylon Doggett, Frederick, Cruz Hale, and Payton Warrior.

The seventh grade team was second in the team standings with 43.5 points behind Cumberland’s 71 and ahead of Villa Grove who scored 18.5 points.

Winning events for the seventh grade were Cooper Shoemaker, high jump; Brennon Hutson, 110m hurdles; Owen Herring, 200m; and the 4 X 4 relay team of Hutson, Shoemaker, Coye Grant and Herring.

The JH track teams will be on the road for the next few weeks after hosting their annual ALAH Jr. High Invitational on Saturday, April 16. They will compete at Tuscola in a quadrangular meet with the host school, Tuscola East Prairie, SJO and Paris Crestwood and compete on April 23 at Arcola’s annual JH Invite and close the month of April at the Mt. Zion Invitational on April 30.
