ALAH Jr. High Track Girls Sweep Team Titles in Home Triangular
Morgan Casteel a seventh grader on the JH track team races down the home stretch in the 800 meter run. Morgan would win the seventh grade race in a time of 3:03.57. Morgan also placed third in the high jump and ran a leg of the winning 4 X 2 relay.
The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Jr. High girls’ track and field teams won both the seventh and eighth grade divisions of the home track meet held on April 11 against Cumberland and Villa Grove.
Knights’ eighth grader Gracie Romine won both the 100 and 200 meters in the meet last Monday. Other winners for the eighth grade were Alex Clark, discus; Ruby Burton, 1600m; and the 4 X 2 and 4 X 4 relay teams which had the same members for both, Romine, Addi Rohr, Skylar Graham and Burton.
The seventh grade posted wins in eight of the thirteen events contested. Scoring first place finishes were Ashby Coblentz, shot put; Riley Strode, 100m; Sophia Johnson, 400m; Leighton Poulos, 200m; and Morgan Casteel, 800m. The seventh graders also swept the three relays.
Members of those relays were 4 X 100 Norma Mendoza, Sophie Monts, Rylie Ward, and Poulos; the 4 X 200 Casteel, Reece Oye, Embrey Reardon, Brooklyn Peeler; and the 4 X 400 Poulos, Ward, Monts and Reardon.
The JH Knights track teams held their annual ALAH JH Invitational last Saturday, April 16 and have a meet scheduled for Thursday, April 21 at Tuscola with the host school, SJO and Paris Crestwood. They have another Invitational set for Saturday, April 23 at Arcola.
