Just a week after sweeping the ALAH JH Invitational, the ALAH jr. high track and field teams competed in neighboring Arcola’s Annual JH Invite. While not sweeping the team titles the Knights brought home three trophies and a third place while competing in warm and very windy conditions.
For the girls the seventh grade topped their division with 97 points ahead of second place Neoga with 50. They had three individual champions, Morgan Casteel in the 800 meters, Embrey Reardon, the 1600 meters and Cassidy Rohacs in the 100 meter hurdles. Also earning blue ribbons were the 4 X 4 relay of Riley Strode, Norma Mendoza, Rylie Ward and Rohacs.
The Knights’ eighth grade girls brought home the second place trophy in their class with 64 points just two points behind first place Central A & M. Ruby Burton was a double winner taking firsts in the 400 and 1600 meters. Alex Clark picked up a first place in the shot put.
The eighth grade boys captured the championship trophy scoring 124 points to second place Okaw Valley’s 70. Double event winners were Payton Warrior in the 100 and 200 meters and Cruz Hale in the 800 and 1600 meters. The eighth grade also scored two relay wins, the 4 X 1 team of Brayden Leech, Easton Frederick, Daylon Doggett and Payton Warrior and the 4 X 4 team of Frederick, Justin Schrock, Cruz Hale and Warrior.
The seventh grade boys came close to earning their own trophy but finished third behind meet champion Arcola who scored 87 and Meridian who tallied 65.5 points to the Knights’ 60. Preston Gingerich was the lone first place winner in the seventh grade racing to a first place finish in the 1600 meters.
After a meet in Sullivan on April 25 the jr. high Knights track and field teams will be at Mt. Zion for their 12th Annual Invitational on Saturday, April 30. After the MZ meet will be the Jr. High Okaw Conference meet at Arcola on Monday, May 2 hosted by Arcola.
