ALAH Jr. High Track Girls Compete in Seven Team Meet at Sullivan

ALAH seventh grader Chloe Smith takes off with the baton in the 4 X 1 relay at the seven team meet at Sullivan on April 25. Brianna Clayton, Lyla Sutton, and Vanessa Palma would run the other legs of the relay that finished in a time of 1:08.4.

The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Jr. High girls’ track and field teams traveled to Sullivan on Monday, April 25 for a seven team meet with the host school and Shelbyville, Central A & M, Arcola, and Clinton.

The seventh grade girls took second in the team standings behind Shelbyville, just seven points shy of their 114 points. ALAH had three individual winners in the seventh grade, Leighton Poulos, 200m; Morgan Casteel, 800m and Embrey Reardon, 1600m. Their relay teams swept the three relays with Jillian Marner, Sophie Monts, Brynlee Moore and Leighton Poulos winning the 4 X 1; Norma Mendoza, Rylie Ward, Reardon and Cassidy Rohacs taking first in the 4 X 2 and Sophia Johnson, Riley Strode, Cassidy Rohacs and Marner crossing the finish line first in the 4 X 4.

For the eighth grade girls Ruby Burton won the 400 meters and Alex Clark took first in the shot put. The team finished in third place in the team scoring behind Shelbyville and Clinton.

The jr. high teams were to run at Mt. Zion on Saturday, April 30 and compete at Arcola in the annual Jr. High Okaw Conference meet on Monday, May 2. The Jr. High Knights have their last home meet on May 10 against Paris Mayo and Sullivan.
