ALAH FFA Alumni awards $2,000 in scholarships

Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond (ALAH) FFA Alumni has selected four students to receive scholarships for the 2022 – 23.

The chapter’s purpose is “to provide leadership, mentoring, and financial assistance to the agricultural education program at Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School.”

The scholarship fund receives donations, fundraising, proceeds from the variety test plot hosted by Jeff Davis of Hammond, proceed from the Land Lab donated by Masterbrand Cabinets, and proceeds from the Amish Country Tractor Cruise. Students fill out a comprehensive application and are reviewed by the FFA Advisor and Alumni representative.

Receiving $500.00 scholarships are Quentin Day, Jace Green, Michaela Powell, and Peyton Rawlins.

Quentin Day is the son of JW and Jennifer Day of Lovington. He is planning to attend the University of Illinois where he will major in Farm Management with a minor in large Animal Science. His goal is to raise Angus cattle, farm, and work in the industry.

Jace Green is the son of Justin and Monica Green of Arthur. He will be enrolled in Western Illinois University where he will major in Ag Business plus will be on the university’s cross-country team. Jace plans to return home to the family farm and enroll in auctioneering school. He would like to have his own auction business.

Michaela Powell is the daughter of Darren and Angie Powell of Lovington. She will be headed south to John A. Logan prior to enrolling in Southern Illinois University in forestry and conservation biology. She will be on the volleyball team at John A. Logan. Michaela desires to become a game warden. Prior to fulfilling her goal, she will go through the Police Academy which will enable her to educate the public on conserving natural resources.

Payton Rawlins is the son of Ben and Sara Rawlins of Atwood. Payton will be attending college at Lake Land or Parkland. He does plan to advance to Illinois State University and major in Crop Sciences and Ag Sales with the goal of selling seed.
