CGB Cross Country Runs in Annual Chrisman Cow Chip Classic

Dylan Howell, Tyce Alumbaugh and Will Fuson were medalists in the annual high school Chrisman Cow Chip Classic cross country race on Saturday, September 3.

The Cerro Gordo Bement cross country teams ran in the annual Cow Chip Classic at Chrisman on Saturday, September 3. The race is different in format as each team member runs in a one of seven different flights and the course is an actual cow pasture.

After the flights are finished the times are compiled for an overall placement.

The CGB girls didn’t have enough runners for a team score but had three ladies competing. Their results were: Gabby Block, 52nd, 23:58(PR); Caroline Hill, 61st, 24:37; and Haley Garrett, 68th, 25:42(PR). There were 81 competitors in the girls’ division.

On the boys’ side, CGB had a runner in each of the flights and also had four runners in the Open Race. There were 108 boys in the competition. As a team they finished in ninth place.

Medalists for the Broncos were Will Fuson, who won his flight with a time of 17:22 and was 9th in the overall standings. Dylan Howell took seventh in his flight and 10th overall in 17:24 and Tyce Alumbaugh was 7th in his flight and 60th overall. Other scorers for the boys were: J.P. Brewer, 64th, 20:00; Evan Fogerson, 68th, 20:04; Cliff Strack, 84th, 21:39(PR); and John Freese, 98th, 23:17.

Runners in the Open Race were: Brody Somers, 21:49; Camren Brown, 22:57(PR); Cole Stoeger, 23:10(PR); and Brenden Puckett, 23:59.

The Broncos next competition will be on Saturday, September 10 at First to the Finish hosted by Peoria High School and run at Detweiller Park, which is the site of the IHSA State Cross Country finals in November.
