MTZ girls cross country wins third straight conference championship

The Mt. Zion girls cross country won the 2022 Apollo Conference championship. This is the third straight year the girls team has won the championship.

Sofia Munoz finished for the best for the Braves. Munoz ran a three-mile time of 19 minutes and eight seconds that resulted in her finishing in third place. Ellie Fritzche was not far behind as she crossed the line at 20 minutes and 14 seconds for a fifth place finish.

A pact of Braves finished in seventh through 10th place. Renee Ballard, Avery Sommer, Camille Mavis and Brooke Doyle all came in around the 23 minute mark. Alexia Finch finished in 24th place, Maddy Spangler in 40th place and Hannah Gebke finished in 44th place.

On the boys side, three of the Braves finished in the top-20. Julian Baker finished in second place with a time of 15 minutes and 43 seconds. Lyncoln Koester finished in eighth place with a time of 16 minutes and 57 seconds. Sam Atkinson finished in 20th place with a time of 17 minutes and 47 seconds.

The Mt. Zion boys team finished in fourth place in the Apollo Conference tournament.

Munoz, Fritzche, Ballard, Sommers, Mavis, Doyle, Baker and Koester made the All-Apollo Conference selections.

The Braves will compete in regional completion this Saturday.
