Mtz Quartets Win State Championship

MTZ Quartets “Class Act” and “Premium Blend” pose with HS teacher Rich Hansen after winning their divisions in the state barbershop quartet contest held in Bloomington, IL last month.

Two of Mt. Zion High School’s a cappella quartets entered the state competition last month in Bloomington and won their divisions.

The newest quartet is called “Premium Blend” and is made up of senior Allison Bradford (Lead), with Juniors Kolbi Allen (Tenor) and Daniel Soares (Bass) as well as Sophomore Isaiah Johnson (Baritone).

Defending their state title from 2021 is “Class Act”, now a two-time state championship HS male quartet.

The foursome is made up of Seniors Gabe Johnson (Lead), Aidan Seitz (Bass) and Mason Jones (Baritone) with Junior Alex Current (Tenor).

The quartet singers also sing in other a cappella ensembles at Mt. Zion High School in a program that is now in its 26th year.

A spring concert will be held on Friday, May 12 in the HS auditorium to highlight the groups. Tickets will go on sale in March.
