The Mt. Zion volleyball team lost two Apollo Conference matches against Lincoln and Taylorville.
Against Lincoln, the Braves lost their first set 23-18.
In the second set, the Braves started off with a 2-0 lead with a Railers’ failed serve and Bracie Barnes making a kill. The Railers scored one point and then the Braves went on a run.
The run started when Kallianna Becker got a point off an attack. Barnes then made a block which was followed by a line fault by the Railers and Denver Anderson made a kill to make the score 6-2.
Late in the second set, the Braves took a 12-4 lead when Anderson made a kill. The Railers then rallied to make the score 14-11. After a run of their own the Railers tied the match at 16-16 when Peyton Sasse made a kill.
The Railers went on a 6-2 run that ended with a Kloe Froebe ace that put the Railers up 22-18. The match ended in a 25-23 win for the Railers.
“I thought we fought hard,” Head coach Traci Dyer-Townsend said. “We got rattled in the first set but in the second set we stuck to the game plan and they just rattled us at the end.”
The Braves fell to 13-15 overall and 4-8 in Apollo Conference play. This week the Braves will face St. Teresa, Maroa-Forsyth, Shelbyville and Windsor.
