The ALAH Knights competed in the St Jo/Ogden IHSA 1A Sectional cross country meet Saturday October 29.

Running at Champaign’s Dodds Park, excellent weather and a fast, flat layout made for very fast times in both races. The top 6 teams and the next fastest 10 individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the state meet from each race.

Ruby Burton was the lone competitor for the Knights in the girls race. She runs her career second best time and competes favorably with a 67th place finish out of 149 runners representing 40 schools. Congratulations to Ruby on a fine Freshman campaign! Mabry Bruhn of Monticello established herself as one of the favorites for next week’s state meet running an outstanding 16:56. She was followed by 2 very good freshmen from Marshall and Shelbyville who both ran in the low to mid 17 minute range. Of the individual qualifiers, it took a sub 20 minute effort to get out of this incredibly deep field. This is the 1st time in this writers memory that this has happened.

The boys race went off at 11am and it was competitive and fast as well. Schools from as far south as Fairfield, Robinson, and Salem made the trek to Champaign to battle with 44 schools representing 159 runners. The field contained 8 teams ranked in the state’s top 25 1A schools including the Knights.

Once again, the lead pack of Logan Beckmier and runners from Tuscola and Decatur St. Teresa blew thru the 1st mile in under 5 minutes. They continued this blistering pace through out as Beckmier and the Tuscola duo separated from the pack.

Beckmier finishes 3rd just steps behind the Warrior runners in a season and all time PR of 15:02. Lyle and Jacob Adcock continue their drive to state running seasonal bests finishing 14th & 15th in 16:00/16:04 respectively. Caden Binder runs to 94th in 17:58 while Connor Edmonds is 118th in 18:41. Nathan Cogdill and Ryker Beckmier complete the scoring at 19:39 & 21:03 respectively.

Unfortunately the team finishes 8th, just 20 points from the coveted 6th state qualifying position. There were a total of 21 scoring teams competing.

Logan Beckmier, Lyle Adcock, and Jacob Adcock advance to state and have the opportunity to complete their high school cross country careers on the hallowed course at Detweiller Park north of Peoria. They will leave their assigned starting box at 10am Saturday, November 5 to put the finishing touches on 3 careers that rank amongst the elite in ALAH XC history!
