MTZ cross county goes back to State finals

The Mt. Zion cross country teams are both heading back to the IHSA 2A State Finals. For the girls it is their fifth consecutive trip and for the boys it is their second straight trip.

In the IHSA sectionals, the girls team finished fourth place overall. Sofia Munoz finished highest for the Braves crossing the line at 18 minutes and eight seconds for an eighth-place finish.

Ellie Fritzche came in next for the Braves at 19th place with a time of 18 minutes and 46 seconds. Camille Mavis finished in 25th place with a time of 18 minutes and 58 seconds. Renee Ballard finished in 38th place with a time of 19 minutes and 27 seconds.

Avery Sommer finished in 52nd place with a time of 19 minutes and 48 seconds. Alexia Finch and Brooke Doyle finished out the girls competitors at 84th and 86th place.

The boys team finished in second place and Julian Baked led them with a fourth place finish with a time of 15 minutes and eight seconds. Daniel Grauer, Mark Mavis and Lyncoln Koester came in 21st-23rd place all coming in at 15 minutes and 55 seconds.

Sam Atkinson finished in 49th place with a time of 16 minutes and 26 seconds. Aiden Mulgrew finished in 111th place and Isaac Carpenter at 120th place.

The Braves’ teams will compete on Saturday at the IHSA 2A Cross Country Finals at Detweiller park in Peoria. The girls will run at 11 a.m. and the boys at 12 p.m.
