During the Thanksgiving holiday, we reported on the Turkey Bowl at Michael’s Tavern, downtown Atwood. During the Christmas holiday, Michael’s sponsored the Holiday Bowl. Now these bowl games are very unique because bowlers use a frozen turkey.

And you thought turkey was just for eating? Not a chance!

You take a 10 lb. frozen turkey, wrapped of course, then wrapped again with “lots” of metallic duct tape. A lane of sorts is set up with bowling pins. It is really neat. Winners of the Holiday Bowl are pictured above, Cody Gingerich of Sullivan; Brock Carney of Cooks Mill and “Diesel” Nick Rohn of Arthur. Congratulations to all of these winners. Cody received a ham for first place and the others gift certificates to Michael’s.

Both of these bowling tournaments netted $400, plus there was a $100 donation. Michael, normally called Rain Man, likes to donate this money to a good cause. This year he donated the $500 to the Atwood-Hammond Christmas Needy Fund to help buy food to assist the needy.

Michael (Rain Man) met with Kathy Terril just before Christmas to donate the check to the A-H Christmas Needy Fund.

What was a lot of fun for several people, helped a lot of people in return. Thank you to “Rain Man” and his patrons who donated for this worth-while cause for the former A-H school district.
