Broncos Baseball Goes 3-1 On The Week; Moore and Somers Throw Shutouts

Somers On The Mound Shuts Out Decatur Eisenhower Panthers

Brody Somers threw a gem on the road Saturday for CGB, allowing zero runs and besting Decatur Eisenhower by a score of 15-0

The Broncos secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the second inning. Brayden Strack, Somers, Ty Carlson, Brenden Puckett, and Tyson Moore all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

In the first inning, Cerro Gordo-Bement got their offense started. Michael Freese drove in one when Freese singled.

CGB notched eight runs in the second inning. Strack, Somers, Carlson, Puckett, and Moore each drove in runs during the inning.

Somers led things off on the mound for the Broncos. The righty lasted four innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out eight.

Marshawn Cooper was on the mound for the Panthers. The bulldog surrendered nine runs on five hits over two innings, striking out four. Logan DeJaynes and Brandon Durbin entered the game as relief, throwing one inning and one-third of an inning respectively.

The Broncos tallied seven hits as Freese, Strack, and Somers each racked up multiple hits. Somers, Strack, and Freese each collected two hits to lead the team.

CGB didn’t commit a single error in the field. Kade Alumbaugh had the most chances in the field with six. They also tore up the base paths, as four players stole at least two bases. Freese led the way with four.

Christopher Benner went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Decatur Eisenhower in hits.

Moore Shuts Out Argenta-Oreana

Tyson Moore threw a shutout to lead CGB past Argenta-Oreana 7-0 on Friday at home.

The Broncos pulled off a big victory without ever scoring many runs in an inning. The most they scored was two in the fifth.

Cerro Gordo-Bement got things moving in the first inning, when they scored on a stolen base during Brody Somers’s at bat. Then Somers singled, driving in one.

Moore toed the rubber for the Broncos as he lasted seven innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out nine.

Hall led things off on the hill for Argenta-Oreana. The bulldog lasted four innings, allowing three hits and six runs while striking out four. Lawson threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Somers, Kade Alumbaugh, Moore, and Michael Freese each managed one hit to lead the Broncos. They didn’t commit a single error in the field. Somers had nine chances in the field, the most on the team.

Ragsdale went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Argenta-Oreana in hits.

Broncos Clinche Lead in Sixth Inning for Victory Over Arthur Christian

The CGB Broncos took the lead late in the game in a 14-12 victory over Arthur Christian on Thursday in Arthur. The game was tied at 11 with the Broncos batting in the top of the sixth when Michael Freese singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

CGB was boosted by Ty Carlson who went 4-for-4 at the plate. Carlson singled in the first, hit a grand slam in the fourth, singled in the sixth, and singled in the seventh.

ACS took an early lead in the first inning when Julius singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

CGB notched five runs in the fourth inning. Freese and Carlson powered the big inning with RBIs.

Brayden Strack got the start as the righthander surrendered 12 runs on 12 hits over five and a third innings, striking out four and walking one.

Caden Henry was on the mound for the Conquering Riders. Henry surrendered two runs on two hits over one inning, striking out two. Helmuth, Mast, and Hostetler each contributed in relief for Arthur-Okaw Christian.

Carlson launched one home run on the day in the fourth inning.

The Broncos tallied 12 hits on the day. Carlson, Freese, and Tyson Moore all had multiple hits. Carlson went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead the team in hits. Freese led Cerro Gordo-Bement with two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.

ACS tallied 13 hits in the game.

Broncos Can’t Catch Mt. Pulaski Hilltoppers

Falling behind early, the CGB Broncos couldn’t come back in a 15-0 loss to Mt. Pulaski Hilltoppers on the road Tuesday. The Hilltoppers scored on a walk by Jackson Fricke, a walk by Chance Payne, a walk by Clay Aylesworth, a single by Liam Smith, a groundout by Evan Cooper, a walk by A.J. Bailey, a single by Eric Cooper, a single by Fricke, a walk by Payne, and a groundout by Luke Martin in the first inning.

CGB struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Hilltoppers, giving up 15 runs.

Martin was on the pitcher’s mound for Mt. Pulaski allowing one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out seven and walking one.

Kade Alumbaugh started the game for the Broncos. The righthander allowed zero hits and seven runs. Michael Freese threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Somers went 1-for-1 at the plate to lead CGB in hits.
