Broncos Clinches Lead in Fifth Inning to Defeat Sullivan

Cerro Gordo-Bement stole the lead late in the game in an 8-5 victory over Sullivan on the road Saturday. The game was tied at two with CGB batting in the top of the fifth when Ian Bettinger singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.

The Broncos fired up the offense in the first inning, when an error scored one run.

CGB evened things up at two in the top of the fourth inning. Tyson Moore’s sacrifice fly scored one run for the Broncos.

Brody Somers led things off on the pitcher’s mound going five and a third innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out two.

Brody Somers, Kade Alumbaugh, Ty Carlson, Brayden Strack, Brenden Puckett, Bettinger, Kaydon Waterhouse, Tyson Moore, and Michael Freese each managed one hit in the victory.

CGB Can’t Catch Up To Arcola

CGB watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 21-2 loss to the Arcola Purple Riders on Monday. Arcola scored on a wild pitch by Caiden Helmuth, a single by Braden Phillips, a single by Austin Kutz, an error, a single by Brevyn Whisman, and a single by Helmuth in the first inning.

The Broncos struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Arcola, giving up 21 runs.

Kaydon Waterhouse was on the mound for CGB. The righthander surrendered nine runs on six hits over one inning, striking out one. Brenden Puckett and Ty Carlson entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one and one-third innings and two-thirds of an inning respectively.

Kade Alumbaugh, Ty Carlson, and Kaydon Waterhouse all had one hit to lead the team.
