Mt. Zion Chamber of Commerce holds Awards Banquet, announces 2022 Outstanding Business of the Year Award

2023 Mt. Zion Chamber Scholarships Awarded and New Awards

The Mt. Zion Chamber of Commerce held their Awards Banquet on April 20, 2023 at the Mt. Zion Convention Center.

Decatur Earthmover Credit Union received the 2022 Outstanding Business of the Year Award. They have proven themselves to be outstanding through their years of commitment to their customers and community for over 65 years. Their business began in 1956 as part of Caterpillar. To provide Caterpillar employees with financial services that were not available at the time, in 1980 they left Caterpillar to become their own entity, expanding their offerings to everyone in the community. Today, they have 5 locations serving over twenty thousand members in Central Illinois. They are committed to investing in the community through financial education, supporting community events, and regular giving to our area’s nonprofit organizations.

They have also been a long-standing member of our chamber and are always willing to lend a hand when needed.

The 2022 President’s Award of Excellence recognizes some of the organizations that have donated their time and support to help the chamber with different events and activities throughout the year. This award was given to Steve and Cindy Lewis with Lewis Property Development and Rentals.

The 2022 Volunteer of the Year Award goes to Kayla Marsh with Hickory Point Bank & Trust who has served as a Chamber ambassador and continues to go above and beyond to help wherever needed. This person will be joining us to serve on next year’s board of directors.

The 2022 Non-Profit of the Year Award went to the Mt. Zion District Library. They continue to invest and provide for our community through their services and programs. They are actively involved in our chamber throughout the year and are a staple of our community.

The 2022 New-Business of the Year Award recognizes of a business that is new to our chamber by joining our membership within the last year. This year’s award went to The Party Shop. This business is not only new to our chamber but is also a new business in its first year of operation. They have everything you need for your next event or gathering including tablescapes, balloons, flowers, sweets, baked goods, and much more.

The NExT Awards were developed to recognize the young professionals and emerging leaders throughout our member businesses. NExT stands for New Exceptional Trailblazers, and that is what these recipients are doing within their businesses.

The NExT Award for 2022 went to: Stephanie Strick, Mt. Zion District Library; Raven Schultz, Decatur Earthmover Credit Union; Lance Mueller, George A Mueller Beer Co.; Judah Renfro, Decatur Earthmover Credit Union; Evan Hall, Mike Hall Auction Co.; Emily Phillips, Neuhoff Media; Elizabeth Sullard, Synergy HomeCare; Courtney Anderson, BRE Law; Ashley Nail, Decatur Earthmover Credit Union; Abigail Svoboda, Busey Bank.

The following organizations were recognized for donating their time and support to help the chamber with different events and activities throughout the year.

They were: The Boy Scouts of America Troop 43; The Mt. Zion High School Medics Club; The Mt. Zion High School Key Club; The Mt. Zion High School Acappella Ensembles.

Through the years, the Mt. Zion Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund has donated thousands of dollars to qualifying graduating seniors from the Mt. Zion School District or to the child of a Chamber Member in good standing. Three scholarships of $1,000 each, totaling $3,000, were awarded this year to one Chamber member’s graduating senior and two Mt. Zion High School graduating seniors: Senaa Debela (St. Teresa High School), Katie Schnippel and Ella Sommer (Mt. Zion High School).
