The Mt. Zion girls soccer team added two more Apollo Conference wins to their record defeating Taylorville and Charleston.

Against Taylorville, the Braves offense started going in the fourth minute of the game. McKenzie Krieger dished a pass off to Paityn Koester who shot and scored low-left corner of the net to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.

Koester went on to score four goals in the entire match including one five minutes later into the low right corner of the net. Then Boston Flanigan found Maddie Kendall who netted a goal for the match to give the Braves a 3-0 lead 14 minutes into the game.

Krieger got her second assist of the night when she dished a pass to Sydney Howerton who scored that gave the Braves a 5-0 lead. Flanigan then found Krieger who scored to give the Braves a 6-0 lead.

Flanigan ended a 7-0 halftime lead for the Braves. Kendall fired a cross pass into the box and Flanigan arrived late, but finished off the scoring play for a goal.

“I thought we played well,” Head coach Jonathan Moore said. “We moved the ball well and it’s always good to see the ball go in the back of the net. Paityn Koester had a great first half and it’s always nice to see it go in the net.”

Koester scored the eight goal of the night and Gracie Larrison scored an Olympic goal off a corner kick to give the Braves a 9-0 win.

The Braves improved to 12-5 overall and 5-3 in Apollo conference play. This week the Braves will face Eisenhower, Lincoln and Mattoon.

“Hopefully Thursday at Charleston we continue to improve,” Coach Moore said. “We continue to improve with our possession game. improve at winning 50-50s and hopefully we just keep building each week and keep getting better.”
