William “Bill” Henderson

William “Bill” Henderson, of Pierson Station, IL went home to the Lord at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville IL.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, May 13, 2023 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Hammond Cemetery, Hammond IL.

Bill was born on July 9, 1929 in Decatur, IL to Hubert Henderson and LaNeva (Kochendarfer) Henderson. Bill was married to his sweetheart, Lois Henderson, for 68 years. Together they raised eight children of their own and touched the lives of many other children through foster parenting, serving as house parents at Carmi Baptist Children’s Home, and as substitute house parents and grandparents at New Mexico Boys Ranch. Together they shared their love of God through pastoring various churches in Illinois and Alaska and helping those in need by being part of the Illinois Disaster Relief Team. They enjoyed traveling and shared many adventures. Bill retired from Caterpillar in 1986. He enjoyed living and ministering at Friendship Hill Retirement Center in Lovington IL. Bill loved participating in churches. As a leader or as a visitor, he was always ready to say an amen, speak a few words, or share a song to encourage church members. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.

He is survived by his children, Dansel Buxton, Mt. Zion, IL; Billie (Donald) Hollingsead, McKinney, TX; Stanley (Brenda) Henderson, New London, MO; LaNeva (Michael) Nugent, Tomball, TX; Harold Henderson, St. Louis, MO; Beth (Michael) Ramsey, Wagoner, OK; Mark (Julie) Henderson, Pittsfield, IL; Philip Henderson, Albuquerque, NM; 1 sister, Norma Jean Rigg, Hammond IL; 23 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 29 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lois, 1 son Albert, 1 son-in-law, Blaine Buxton, 2 granddaughters, 1 great-grandson, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
