The Mt. Zion Lion’s Club announced their 2023 Citizen of the year winners in Steve Williams and Chad Reynolds.

Every year The Lions Club gives out the Citizen of the Year Award. The award goes to a person that has done particular things in a given year or sometimes the award is given to someone that has done those things for a cumulative number of years. It’s an award to recognize someone and show appreciation for someone who’s contributed substantially to the Mt. Zion community.

Every year names are submitted to the Mt. Zion Lions Club. Then the committee made up of Lions Club meme bees and a village board member decide who is worthy of this award.

Williams was raised in the Mt. Zion community and his father was active in the community. Williams and his wife raised their family in the village. He has served for the Lions Club for 30 years, developed Pony Express facilities and is in charge of everything to planning, organizing, and executing Pony Express days.

“I was totally shocked and surprised to win this award and didn’t know about it until my arrival here,” Williams said. “To say this is an honor is an understatement. I really appreciate this award and I do what I do for a community, because I love the community. I like what I do.”

Reynolds moved him and his family to Mt. Zion in 2000. Village administrator Julie Williams said “he is always the first person to help someone in need.” Reynolds has put his kids through the school system, volunteered as a basketball, soccer, softball, baseball and dance dad. He is also a a member of Mt. Zion Oddfelllows and and a member of the Mt. Zion High School Football Chain Gang. Professionally, Reynolds serves as the village director of public works.
