MTZ school board discusses eclipse day and updating ball fields

Staff Writer

The Mt. Zion School board met on August 15 and discussed the possibilities of a half day on the day of the Solar Eclipse and redoing the Mt. Zion baseball and softball fields.

The Solar Eclipse is slated for April 8. The idea was first brought up at the opening breakfast for faculty, staff and the board. This will be the last totality eclipse in our lifetime. It was discussed and will be brought back to the board whether to have a half day of school that day or no school that day to allow families to see the eclipse.

The board also discussed the possibility of updating the baseball and softball fields. The idea would be to make the fields into turf since it’s more maintainable. There was also talk of updating the soccer field at the intermediate school possibly into a turf field or half a field. No further discussion of when this will be brought to the board, but the idea was tossed around.

The next school board meeting will be on September 19 at 6:30 p.m.
