CGB Cross Country Hosts Invitational; Boys Compete at Detweiler

The Cerro Gordo Bement Broncos cross country teams hosted an Invitational on Tuesday, September 5. The boys won the meet with Sullivan Okaw Valley taking second, and Argenta-Oreana finished third. Tri-County and Central A & M competed but didn’t have enough runners for a team score.

Bronco senior Dylan Howell was the individual winner of the race with a time of 16:55. Other team scorers for CGB were Will Fuson, 2, 16:55; Brayden Strack, 3, 18:34; Evan Fogerson, 6, 19:04; and J P Brewer, 7, 19:15. Other competitors for the boys were Tyce Alumbaugh, 8, 19:36; Azul Mendez, 9, 19:50; Cole Stoeger, 14, 20:33; Brenden Puckett, 17, 20:51 and Noah Flach, 23, 22:44.

Katherine Quick was the lone CGB girl’s runner and she finished 10th at 26:56.

On Saturday, September 9 the boys traveled to Detweiler Park in Peoria, the site of the IHSA State Cross Country finals in November. The meet provides experience on the state course, running with lots of other athletes and with great weather all the

Broncos set new PRs!! As a team they finished in 16th out of 46 scoring teams in Class 1A. There were 548 runners in the field.

As has been the case all season, Dylan Howell was the first Bronco to cross the finish line in 13th with a time of 15:35 with Will Fuson close behind in 15th at 15:36. Evan Fogerson, 165, 18:14; Brayden Strack, 176, 18:23; and J P Brewer, 242, 19:06 rounding out the scoring spots for CGB. Other runners were Azul Mendez, 243, 19:06; Tyce Alumbaugh, 252, 19:13; Cole Stoeger, 381, 21:12; and Brenden Puckett, 394, 21:22.
