HONORING COACH JERRY LANE.

HONORING COACH JERRY LANE.
Before the football game between the Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond Knights and the Sullivan Okaw Valley Redskins, Coach Jerry Lane’s family was welcomed to the 50-yard line for a special announcement.  On Monday, ALAH High School and Sullivan High School lost teacher and Hall of Fame coach Jerry Lane.  Coach Lane was serving as the head softball coach for our high school and junior high programs.  Coach Lane was a head softball coach for 18 years, 8 of those years as the head coach at ALAH.  During his tenure at ALAH his teams amassed a record 152-64.   Prior to coaching at ALAH, Coach Lane was the head softball coach at Sullivan High School for 10 seasons and finished with a 177-112 record. During his 18 years as a head softball coach, his teams have won 8 conference championships, 5 regional championships, one sectional championship, one super-sectional championship, and a 4th place finish at last year’s IHSA state finals.  He was a member of the Illinois Softball Coaches Hall of Fame.    In addition to his coaching accomplishments in softball, Coach Lane was a head football coach for 23 seasons.  Many of those seasons were at Sullivan High School.  He had a career total of 136 victories and is a member of the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.  Coach Lane was also a baseball head coach and accumulated 298 wins over 20 seasons.  Coach Lane’s passion and energy for athletics and for his players was unmatched.  His love for the game was contagious, and his impact on his players reached well beyond the diamonds, fields, and dugouts. We here at Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond High School and Sullivan High ask that you stand for a moment of silence in honor of Coach Lane. Photo by Sally McCarthy
