Eastern Illinois Foodbank helps neighbors in need

By Dominik Stallings

The Eastern Illinois Foodmobile started a route in Douglas County in August. Since then, they have been helping families keep their pantries and fridges stocked.

The Foodmobile has been visiting Villa Grove, Camargo, and Hindsboro and Newman every fourth Thursday of the month.

Communication Engagement Manager Sophie Becker said that the Foodmobile focuses on smaller villages and towns without their own food banks.

According to its website, the Eastern Illinois Foodbank provides food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters and other programs with food in 19 counties. Becker said they distributed 10 million pounds of food to 1.5 million people last year. Becker said those numbers fluctuate a lot since only some have reliable transportation.
