100th Birthday Open House for Jake Albert

You are cordially invited to an open house to celebrate the 100th birthday of Jake Albert, December 9, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at 104 E Carter St, Cerro Gordo, IL. No gifts please, but cards are appreciated.

Adrian Earl Albert (Jake) was born on December 11, 1923 to Earl and Thelma (Barnett) Albert. Jake grew up in Cerro Gordo with his ten siblings; Dale Albert (deceased), Corwin Albert (deceased), Gloria Ruch (deceased), Bernard Albert (deceased), Eleanor Nickey (deceased), George Albert (deceased), Betty Turner, Carroll Albert, Beverly Seitz, and Sandy Brandenburg.

Jake was a 1941 graduate of Cerro Gordo High School where he met his wife of 69 years, Lorraine Dobson Albert (deceased). Jake and Lorraine both served in the armed forces during World War II. Jake was drafted in the Army Air-corp and Lorraine enlisted in the Navy Waves.

Jake served four years, beginning February 1943 in West Palm Beach-Miami, FL and then British Guiana before marrying Lorraine in Washington DC on November 10, 1945,

After his discharge in February 1946 Jake and Lorraine made their home in Decatur, IL where they began their married life and family. They have three children, Christine Albert Berbaum (Ron) of Ramseur, NC, Arlone Albert Doan (Bob, deceased) of Arthur, IL, and Mark Albert of Oakley, IL. Jake and Lorraine moved to Oakley, IL in 1955.

Jake began working at the US Postal Service in 1947 as a mail carrier and retired after 37 years in 1984 as a Station Manager at Brentwood Village, Decatur.

Jake and Lorraine have seven grandchildren, Adrianne Berbaum Haley (Jack) of Ramseur, NC, Jeremy Berbaum (Katie) of Asheboro, NC, Rob Albert (Jodi) of Bloomington, IL, Tracy Albert Neinas (Rick) of Elburn,IL, Bradley Gibbons (deceased), Nicole Gibbons of Bethany, IL and Sarah Springman(Aaron) of Bethany, IL.

There are thirteen great grandchildren, Shea Berbaum (Grace) of Dallas, NC, Jessica Cockroft (Steven) of Hickory, NC, Makenzie Albert of Bloomington, IL, Morgan Albert of Bloomington, IL, Haven Berbaum of Asheboro, NC, Azlan Berbaum of Asheboro, NC, McKel Berbaum of Asheboro, NC, Judah Berbaum of Asheboro, NC, Savannah Palmer (Travis) of LaPlace, IL, Emma Minard of Bethany, IL, Quintin Lawrence of Bethany, IL Colin Lawrence of Bethany, IL, and Kyler Lawrence-Gibbons (deceased).

As well as five great-great grandchildren, Axel Berbaum, Milo Berbaum, Silas Palmer, Waylon Palmer, Millie Palmer and many, many nieces and nephews.

Jake is a member of the Cerro Gordo United Methodist Church and is an avid gardener and 42 player. Jake enjoys ballroom dancing, watching the corn and beans grow, watching the News and spending time with family and friends.
