Shining a light on solar savings- is it worth the investment?

Solar panel systems are becoming more common in Douglas County and the United States. Several residents and towns in Douglas County are using the technology to lower electrical costs.

Arcola City Administrator Bill Wagoner said the city has used solar panels since 2006 and expanded further last year.

Wagoner said they have been an asset to the city.

Owen Tucker, with Solar Sense, a Tuscola-based solar panel contractor, installed panels at Arcola’s Water Treatment facility. Wagoner said that during the summer, the panels are almost able to power the facility fully on their own.
