As stated by Head Boys’ Track and Field Coach Mitch Wilson, “the ALAH track and field program is excited to work with the University of Illinois to the first of two indoor Mini Meets at the Armory.” The first of those meets was held on Friday, Feb. 27 with the second to follow on Friday, March 6. The meets feature the same four field events, high jump, long jump, triple jump, and shot put but the running events differ for each. Last night’s running events were the 800M, 60M high hurdles, 60M dash, 400M, 1600M, and the 4 X 200M relay. The second will see runners in the 4 X 800M relay, 60M high hurdles, 60M, 200M, 800M, and the 4 X 400M relay.
The meet on February 27 had nine boys’ teams with ten on the girls’ side. The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond boys took second behind Unity. The last event of the evening allowed the Knights to move into second place by one point over Gibson City Melvin Sibley as the foursome of Payton Warrior, Cruz Hale, Ismael Corona, and Daylon Doggett won the 4 X 2 relay to score ten points. They had trailed the Falcons by nine going into that event.
The Knights’ girls team took fourth behind Unity, Fisher, and Sullivan. ALAH junior Leighton Poulos was the first place finisher in the triple jump with a PR leap of 29’ 1”. The girls continued their record setting ways with three more school records being bettered. Two of those records were reset by Ruby Burton in the 800 meters where she lowered her mark of 2:31.73 to 2:30.02 and Kimberly Krutsinger took her new record of 5:55.27 down to 5:52.21, both those times were PRs for the athletes. Another record was set by senior Alex Clark in the shot put. Alex and Addison Yeakel held the old record at 33’ 11.5” set last year and Alex raised that to 34’ 4.25”.
The top six competitors in each event scored points. Scorers for the ALAH boys with their event, place, and result were: 400M: 4, David Briseno, 58.09, PR; 800M: Beau Green, 3, 4:49.66; 60M High Hurdles: 2, Brennon Hutson, 10.15; Shot Put: 6, Donovan Vanausdoll, 38’ 5.5”; Long Jump: 3, Faemus Davison, 17’ 9.75, PR; Cannon Doggett, 5, 16’ 11.5”, PR; Carson Reed, 6, 16’ 4.5”, PR; Triple Jump: Daylon Doggett, 2, 37’ 9.25”, and Faemus Davison, 4, 34’ 10.25”
