BEECHER – The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond softball team beat Blue Ridge 12-2 on April 20, Paris on April 21, 9-7 and Tri-County 18-6 last Thursday. However, they lost two games Saturday starting with a 17-0 loss to St. Joseph-Ogden and 15-0 to Beecher, the No. 3 team in Class 2A, 17-0.
The Knights are 7-14 overall and 3-2 in the Lincoln Prairie Conference, good for fifth place.
ALAH had a two-out single by Anna Rawlins, who stole second with two outs in the fourth for their only hit of the contest against Beecher, 17-0. In the Paris game the Knights trailed 7-6 before scoring three in their half of the sixth and returning the Tigers in order.
ALAH 18, Tri-County 6
The Knight led 3-1 in the bottom of the second when they blew the game open with an 11-run inning. ALAH sent 16 to the plate. The first seven batters all reached first, including six on singles. With one out Annie Ponder doubled to score two runs for a 10-1 lead. Annabelle Vanadoll singled, Sophie Monts singled, scoring Vanausdoll. London Dugan walked and after a fielder’s choice Karaline Vanausdoll was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Rawlings drove in teh final run with a single for a 14-1 advantage.
Blue Ridge at ALAH, Monday
The game was tied at two after the ALAH scored two runs in the battle of the teams with the nickname of Knights. ALAH took the lead for good with two runs in the second when with one out Laila Sanchez singled and moved to third on a ground out. With two outs Reece Oye, the No. 9 hitter came through with an RBI single to right. Annabelle Vanausdoll walked. With runners on first and second Sophie Monts drove in Oye with a single to right.
ALAH added four in the fourth and fifth. In the fifth they scored all runs with two outs in the 10-run victory that was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Monts and Rawlins were 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Arthur, while Kyndrie Carter was the winning pitcher. She allowed five hits and one earned run with one strikeout and no walks.
