What is the difference between The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution of the United States? Is that in the Constitution?
We the People: A Constitution Conversation will answer these questions and many others. We the People is a free, fact-based, community series designed to review The Constitution of the United States. Dates are July 12 and 26; Aug. 9 and 23, and Sept. 20. All events are on Sunday from 2–4 p.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse. Seating is limited.
The first session will outline why our Constitution was needed and place it in its Enlightenment Era historical context. Session 1 will include interesting factoids and present artifacts associated with our Founders. The three subsequent interactive sessions will elucidate our Constitution, The Bill of Rights, and the other Amendments as well as tie them to today.
Each session will provide ample opportunity for constructive comments and questions as well as compelling discussion.
The final event is a Rally for the Constitution during Constitution Week. Several surprises are being planned.
David and Diane Zell will facilitate this series. They are local, retired U.S. history and government teachers with cumulative experience of over 60 years.
“Come. Together we can form ‘a more perfect union,’” Diane Zell said.
