At the Arcola Rotary Club meeting on July 9, the program for the day was a presentation made by Rotarian Bill Wagoner, Arcola city administrator. Bill updated the members about the ongoing programs of improvements being made to the city as well as upcoming city events. Afterwards, President Mick Howrey presented Bill with a “Service Above Self” certificate acknowledging Bill’s presentation and his continued service to the club.
During the meeting two checks were presented on behalf of the club. Winnie Stortzum, member of the Rotary Comedy Night committee, presented a $500 check to Principal Nick Lindsey for the Arcola schools athletic department. This money was from the participation of students for the heart scans and support of Arcola businesses as sponsors for the Comedy Night program. The Rotary Comedy Night is held each year to provide free heart scans to high school athletes in order to detect any potential heart problems in the athletes.
President Mick Howrey presented a $200 check to club treasurer, Karen Yardley, from the Arthur Rotary Club for their fireworks volunteers from our club, Mick Howrey and Tedi Jo Young.
