ARCOLA – The Kaskaskia Country Club Men’s Championship began July 11 and July 12 and will finish this Saturday and Sunday. Halfway through Mark Klinger, a 2008 Arcola High School grad, shot rounds of 75 and 70 for a 145, which is two strokes ahead of Dallas Sisk and Bruce McNary. Sisk, a 2020 Arcola grad, shot a 72 and a 75 for a 147, while McNary, a 1993 AHS grad, had rounds of 74 and 73. Klinger led all 37 golfers with his 70 Sunday, while McNary and Kyle Gingerich had the second best rounds of a 73.
The championship continues Saturday and Sunday. Saturday tee-times range from 8 a.m. to 9:40 a.m.
Jeremy Miller led after July 11 with a 70, while Ryder Pollock and Sisk were tied for second with 72s and McNary was fourth with a 74.
Red, White and Blue Scramble
In the Red, White and Blue Scramble July 4 Nick Suding, Jerome Schrock, Kenny Schrock and Toby Mast shot 19-under par to win the scramble. Finishing one shot behind were Clayton Miller, Reed Strader, Paul Sisk and Eric Kauffman. Ryder Pollock, Steve Romine, Jordan Nelson and Logan Schrock earned third place in a two-hole playoff to beat Matt Brown, Lavern Herschberger, Michael Robey, and Jason Schrock. Both teams finished at -16 along with Shawn Vanausdoll, Tyler Drake, Russell Brough and Rosetta Gingerich, who were eliminated after the first playoff hole.
A total of 49 golfers competed and the Ladies League did the hole sponsors, raffle and door prizes.
The individual prize winners were: closest to the pin on No. 6/15 Kyle Gingerich 9-9; closest to the pin on No. 8/17 Larry Herschberger 1-8; longest putt No 4/13 Zach Hudson 15-0; chip in: Shawn Vanausdoll, Lavern Herschberger, Billy Dees, Jason Schrock, Jeremy Miller, Troy Mast, Matt McCarthy, Pauline Gingerich and Jerome Schrock.
Suding on winning team in Bret Bielema Invitational
Siding was also in the Bret Bielema Invitational and was on the winning team which also included Ryan Dixon (Monticello), Jon Proto, Travis Albin (Villa Grove) and Jason Vallowe. The fifth annual scramble, which was sold out, was at the Atkins Golf Club and presented by Gibson Area Hospital. There were 29 five-person teams and it benefited the Illini Quarterback Club. The group shot a 56 and received new orange blazers.
