The Arcola/Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond boys golf team finished fifth in the IHSA Class 2A Regional held on Wednesday, September 29 at the Richland Country Club in Olney.
Juniors Braden Kauffman and Aaron Seegmiller both qualified individually. Kauffman finished third as he shot an 84 and teammate Aaron Seegmiller golfed an 85 finishing in fifth place. They traveled to the sectional meet on Monday, October 4 hosted by Effingham High School. The 18-hole competition was held at the Effingham Country Club.
Regionals were tough for us,” Coach Gisinger said. “We were hoping to get to sectionals as a team but fell just 12 strokes short of that goal. Aaron and Braden did a nice job of holding it together yesterday when they didn’t have their best stuff.”
Alex Kuhns and Clay Seal tied in 11th place individually.
Kade Herschberger shot a 94 and Nolan Schrock golfed a 126. As a team the Knight Riders finished with a score of 351.
Advancing teams included Paris (328), Mt. Zion (335), and Mattoon (339).
Prior to regional play, they hosted and won their third consecutive Lincoln Prairie Golf conference title at Kaskaskia Country Club.
Gisinger commented, “For the conference, the course was playing very tough with the wind and the firm conditions, but we were able to hold it together and get the team championship which was nice for the kids. Having multiple players receive all conference honors was good as well, but we really wanted that team trophy and were able to get it done. Overall, we had a nice season and I am proud of the improvements the players made.”
