Cerro Gordo Bement JH Track and Field Teams Compete at ALAH JH Invitational
Quintin Nevius #4 and teammate Joe Schum #5 lead the way to the finish line in the eighth grade 400 meter dash at the ALAH Invitational last Saturday. Quintin would win the heat in 1:04.17 with Joe finishing right behind him in 1:04.47. They would take second and third overall in the event as a runner from another heat posted a time of 1:02.71. The eighth grade boys finished in third place in the team standings with 67 points.
The Cerro Gordo Bement Jr. High track teams competed at the annual ALAH JH Invitational on Saturday, April 16. It was the first Invite after a two year layoff for the nine teams in the meet. This was the 19th year for the meet that was started back in 2002.
The CGB girls’ teams finished ninth in the seventh grade and tied for fourth with Okaw Valley in the eighth. Complete results for the girls are listed below.
The eighth grade boys had the highest finish for CGB in the team standings finishing in third with 67 points. The seventh grade boys took fifth place in their division with 36 points.
The boys did bring home two individual first place medals for the seventh grade. Anthony Carver won the shot put with a throw of 27’ 6.5” and teammate Trevor Cogdill captured first in the discus with a toss of 82’ 4”.
Will Fuson was a double winner for the eighth grade crossing the finish line first in both the 800, 2:24.32 and the 1600 meters, 5:05.82. He also ran a leg of the winning 4 X 200 meter relay with a time of 1:52.4. Other runners on that relay were Cole Giberson, Miller Giger and Quintin Nevius.
