CGB Cross Country Runs in Annual Lincoln Prairie Conference Meet

The Cerro Gordo Bement cross country team ran in the annual Lincoln Prairie Conference held at Crowder Park in Bethany on Saturday, October 1.

The girls didn’t have enough runners to compete as a team but four Lady Broncos ran as individuals in the meet. Their places and times were: Gabby Block, 11, 23:51.47; Caroline Hill, 13, 24:29.69; Haley Garrett, 18, 25:58.50; and Katherine Quick, 23, 28:49.97.

The CGB boys took third place in the team standings with 66 points behind meet winner Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond, 40, and second place Heritage, 51. Junior Dylan Howell again led the way for the Broncos finishing in second place in a time of 16:19.88. Will Fuson, a freshman finished in sixth in 16:34.38. Both of those boys earned Lincoln Prairie All Conference honors with their finishes.

The other scorers for the Broncos with their places and times were: John Brewer, 13, 18:44.66; Evan Fogerson, 16, 19:00.88; and Tyce Alumbaugh, 19, 19:12.97. Brody Somers, 24, 19:36.66 and Cole Stoeger, 30, 21:06.12 ran in the first flight but only the top five runners figure into the final team score.

As in most meets of their meets this season, the Broncos ran a large group of runners. The other boys’ times in the open race were: Camren Brown, 21:43.25; Brenden Puckett, 23:38.84; and Ian Hawk, 24:02.78.

The Cerro Gordo Bement teams will compete in the Cumberland Invitational held at Lake Land College in Mattoon on Saturday, October 8. The meet starts at 9:00 a.m.

The teams will have a Senior Night/Fun Run on October 11 and run at Heritage High School on Thursday, October 13 before entering post season competition at the IHSA Regional which will be hosted by Shelbyville High School and held at the Forest Park-Dacey Trail on Saturday, October 22. The girls’ race will start at 10:00 a.m. with the boys to follow at 10:50 a.m.
