Kennedy Highley is heading to Southwestern Illinois College to further her softball and academic career.

“I think it made a big impact that Anna (Cox) was going there too, so I didn’t, I wasn’t going alone and it just felt really homey and I really liked the coaches.

Highley played pitcher and centerfield for the Braves in her senior year that resulted in a super-sectional appearance, sectional championship and an Apollo Conference championship. Highley earned All-Apollo Conference first team. Highley hopes to implement the hard work ethic that was expected from Head coach Greg Blakey at the next level.

Coach Blakey said that he has seen growth in Highley throughout her career including being a great hitter for his team last season.

“She has matured a lot as an athlete,” Coach Blakey said. “As a young kid, I thought I saw a lot of potential in her. And in this last year and a half, she has really started to get to what I thought that potential could be.”

Highley is unsure of her major and where she’ll play at the college level. Her academic goal though is to make the dean’s list as a freshman and become a starter on her team athletically.

Coach Blakey’s last words of advice would be to keep pushing and to keep working hard and let “her athleticism work hard for her.”

Highley will miss and cherish the most from her time as a Brave are the community and the connections she’s made.

“I think just the community, because everybody’s super close here,” Highley said. “We all are helping each other out and I’ll miss everyone.”
