ALAH softball tops Rantoul in eight innings; snap three-game losing streak

RANTOUL – Arthur Lovingotn Atwood Hammond snapped a three-game losing streak Friday with a thrilling 5-4 win over Rantoul in a non-conference contest. This was after falling to Argena-Oreans in a 17-4 game and a 12-2 loss to Villa Grove in five innings in a game called due to the 10-run rule. Both games were Lincoln Prairie Contest games. They lost to St. Joseph-Ogden 13-1 on April 20.

The Knights, 12-12 overall are 5-3 in the LPC, good for fourth place. Arthur’s next game is Friday at Heritage in a LPC contest.

Rantoul 4, 8 innings

Trailing 3-0 after two innings and after five innings, the Knights avoided the shutout by scoring two in the sixth. With one out Sophia Monts singled and Anna Rawlings drove her in with a triple. Karaline Vanausoll walked. ALAH completed a double steal as Vanausdoll stole second and Rawlings stole home to make it 3-2.

The Knights tied the game at 3 when Mackenzie Condill tripled and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Layla Deel.

In the eighth Arthur scored two runs as Rawlings walked and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Vanausdoll. With two outs London Dugan singles to center, plating Rawlings. Dugan scores what turned out to be the winning run on a triple by the winning pitcher Madison Schweighart.

The Lady Eagles tripled with one out and she scored on a two out single. The game ended on one of 11 strikeouts by Schweighart, who improved to 9-9.

Arthur won despite being out hit 8-6.

Schweighart was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple and an RBI. while Condill and Rawlings also had triples.
