Mt. Zion football senior Cameron Schroth committed to play football at Knox College.
“I chose Knox because when we got there, my coach automatically knew about me,” Schroth said. “Unlike other coaches, they just kind of skimmed through. They tried telling me, we want you here and there. But Aaron Willits knew exactly what he wanted out of me and all about me instantly and made me feel like I was at home. He’s a coach that cares about his players, so I had to go there.”
Schroth made All-Apollo Conference first team defense for the Braves, was a captain and a formidable force for the excellent pass-rushing defense. Schroth hopes to take with him to the next level his education and 00:35 that “Mt. Zion has a great learning program that will help me in college.”
“Scotty was an unbelievable leader, great kid, does everything right, great work ethic, really a true leader for our kids on defense the last few years and just had a great career for us,” Head Coach Patrick Etherton said. His lasting impact is his work ethic and how he played defense the right way and he had some huge games and made a bunch of tackles. Just overall, just him as a leader.
Scroth’s position in college will be outside linebacker or middle linebacker and is tossing around ideas of majoring in something related to doctors or something environmental. His academic goal is to have all A’s and know what’s going on and then football wise to be better than whoever’s in his position right now to be starting his freshman year.
Coach Etherton’s last words of advice to Schroth are to enjoy it, embrace the opportunity and four years goes by fast.
Schroth said that the thing he’ll cherish the most about his time as a Brave were his coaches.
“I’ll never forget any of the coaches, how much they’ve helped me out for my high school career,” Scroth said.
