ALAH Girls XC Competes at Annual Spartan Classic
By SALLY McCARTHY
The Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond girls’ cross country team ran in the annual Spartan Classic cross country meet hosted by St. Joseph Ogden High School on Saturday, September 28. The course is a street course through St. Joseph and finished with a lap on the high school track at the high school. These meet has a history of some very fast times and great competition and the runners like it because it often allows a lot of PRs to be set.
Three of the Knights runners did set PRs in the race. They were Ruby Burton, 29, 19:34.5; Kimberly Krutsinger, 38, 20:09.32 and Ella Oye, 132, 26:09.27. Other ALAH runners were Embrey Reardon, 83, 22:30.78 and Esmeralda Diaz, 145, 28:41.27. Burton, Krutsinger, and Reardon all earned medals for their efforts.
As a team, the Knights were tied for fifteenth out of twenty scoring teams. Perennial powerhouse Tolono Unity won the girls’ division with 55 points.
Up next for ALAH is a meet hosted by Monticello High School at Lodge Park in Monticello on Thursday, October 3 and then seeking their second Lincoln Prairie Conference title, they will compete on October 8 at Tabor Park in Sullivan.
